Shearling Got Me Like…

Happy Wednesday errybody!

Can you believe it’s February already? I mean, Valentine’s Day is next week! But of course you knew that because every blogger/influencer is posting a gift guide for the guys and gals in your life. Don’t worry, I won’t be posting one. Why you ask? Because men are practical. I would just buy him something that he needs or an upgrade of something he loves and call it a day. And when I want to buy my significant other something special, I don’t need a special occasion to do it. Nor does the size of my gift determine my level of affection for him. But I digress.

This coat though? GIRL. I’m loving it! Shearling coats are super on trend right now and I definitely wanted one. However, I couldn’t see myself wearing a standard length denim jacket version. My mind immediately went to a long coat. But from where? As you may know, I work as a stylist for a fashion app and I have an account that I use to help the newbies get their sea legs. So I asked them to find one for me. They found some great ones including this one from Madewell that I almost got but I immediately fell in love with this one from Oak & Fort. But I didn’t know how their sizing ran so I ventured to their store in downtown San Francisco to see if I could try one on. They didn’t have the exact coat since it was sold out in stores but the sales team was super helpful and had me try on a coat with a similar fit for my online order. In the process, I also ended up finding a sweater dress that I had to have. I bought the dress in store and my coat online and then played the waiting game. Did I mention that the coat was also on sale? So she was definitely worth the wait.

As I’ve stated before, sometimes I instantly know what I want to wear with a particular piece when I get it. This shearling coat was one of them. I knew I wanted to do an all black outfit. Lately, I’ve been trying to find more “in between” sweaters. I have tons of chunky knits and layering sweaters but none that are thick enough to keep me warm but thin enough that I can still wear a coat with them. Le struggle. I ordered 2 of these black turtlenecks from Zara thinking they would suffice. It’s not quite thick enough but I personally can never have enough black turtlenecks so I kept them. Should I count how many outfits I’ve worn on Cocoa Butter Diaries that included a black turtleneck of some sort? It’s a lot mmmkay but I do what I want. So there.

Y’all know I’m borderline obsessed with Levi’s wedgie fit jeans. I have 4 pairs now…and counting! These are the latest addition as I FINALLY found a pair in black. For the longest, I kept trying to find a black pair. Not black rinse but solid black. And Macy’s of all places came through in the clutch! They’ve been my go-to lately for all things Levi’s. Remember that lit teddy bomber jacket that I wore a couple of months ago? Yup, found it at Macy’s. They are always having some kind of sale too so you’re going to get them for a steal compared to buying from Levi’s directly. And who doesn’t like saving a bit of coin? That’s more money I can spend on shoes.

Accessorizing the Shearling Coat

It took about 6 months of being on the wait list for this Gucci belt but I finally got one. I was on the fence for a long time about whether to even get one. I mean, I don’t usually wear belts. Like ever. And I also thought I’d look like a basic for having one. But then I thought, you’re you and you make basic ish look dope on the regular. Just buy the belt. So I did. If you remember, I got my hands on the camel with silver buckle version back in October. I liked it but didn’t love it. I felt like it was too casual. I held onto it for a weekend to see if I could make her work. I couldn’t so I took it back. I had already pre-ordered this one anyway so I was good. I’m so happy I waited for this one. I absolutely love it. And I’ve worn it so many times that it’s more than paid for itself already. It’s the perfect statement piece for my more minimalist looks.

I also debated about getting this Chloe Pixie bag for a while too for the same reason as the Gucci belt: basic bitches ruin everything worth having. Yup, I said what I said. BASIC BITCHES RUIN EVERYTHING WORTH HAVING. Y’all know what I’m talking about. First it was the LV Neverfull, then it was the Givenchy Antigona, and now it’s any bag that Chloe makes. This bag is too cute though so I got one anyway. It holds more than you think, is the perfect pop of color to my neutral outfits, and it has a crossbody strap (if that’s your thing). I highly recommend it. I also linked a great dupe on my Amazon page too if you don’t want to splurge. You’re welcome.

And you’ve seen these white boots, this hat, and these grandpa glasses all day every day since fall started so we don’t need to talk about them. I don’t have a clever anecdote to end this blog post with either sooooo…okay bye.

xoxo, CCB
