The 80s Called and Acid Wash Is Back!

Happy Monday Cocoa Butter Crewe!

Lately, my posts have been more about my personal life rather than fashion. And from time to time, that’s fine. We all go through stuff. But I need to get back into the groove of serving looks. I’m happy to report that my foot is on the mend and I’m able to wear structured shoes now. It’s been three weeks since I was able to wear a heel and ya girl was readyyy! Break out the boots!

Speaking of boots, my outfits usually start with the shoes and I work my way up. This look, however, started with this amazing acid wash denim jacket. One night as I was scrolling through my Instagram feed, I stumbled upon an amazing pair of wide leg trousers from The Who What Wear Collection. As much as I loved it though, I’ve been burned by Target before. A couple of years ago I tried ordering a WWW piece from them and they canceled my order because they couldn’t locate my address. WTF does THAT mean?! But I knew if I wanted something of theirs I’d have to take that chance because NONE of the Target stores in my area sell their clothing. Boo. But I digress. I found the pants, thought about buying them, didn’t love them THAT much, and kept browsing. Then I saw this acid wash denim jacket and knew I had to have it. I had been curious about trying the acid wash trend but I wasn’t sure about going the denim skirt or shorts route. A jacket is easier to incorporate and I couldn’t beat the $45 price tag. But it was the puff sleeve and belted waist details that sealed the deal.

As soon as I ordered it, I began styling its first outfit in my head. I knew that I wanted to go for a full-on 80s look. And because my wardrobe mostly consists of neutral basics, I had all of the other pieces in my closet already. Saving money by restyling quality and versatile pieces is ALWAYS a good look! My go-to white tank top bodysuit (I have it in every color it comes in) from Aritzia would be the perfect top to wear underneath the jacket. I bought these black patent leather leggings last fall after mulling them over for about a month. I don’t wear leggings often with my looks but when I do, they’re not your basic bitch pair okay. These are FASHION!

Accessorizing The Acid Wash Look

I’m a big fan of incorporating texture and contrast into my looks. The booties were also a late fall purchase but I’m glad I pulled the trigger on these. And they’re so popular that Gianvito Rossi brought them back so you can still snag them. My other white boots are lace-up stilettos from Steve Madden so I wanted a pair that was a bit easier to wear. Not only are they more versatile in style, they’re also a more versatile color way. If you look closely, they’re more of an off white rather than a true white. Sometimes true white shoes can be a bit harsh for certain looks. I personally like the contrast of white boots with darker outfits but if that’s not your thing, reach for a pop of color instead like red, fuchsia, or a neon color. Or to be a bit bolder, an animal print would be fun. And y’all know Babs, my shearling Fendi Baguette that I’m obsessed with and find any excuse to carry her. She was perfect for this look to add texture. The sunglasses were a random purchase one day last year from Forever 21 and I don’t regret getting them. They were only $6 and they add just the right amount of extra to my looks. Also, shield sunnies are super on trend right now. And forever 21 is a great place to grab trendy accessories (sunglasses, hair accessories, hats, bags, and jewelry) if you wanted to see if it works for you yet won’t set you back a ton of coin. HIGHLY RECOMMEND them for that reason. And to complete the look I opted for a hot pink matte lip instead of my signature red. Look at me, being bold and stuff lol. This pretty lip color is “Prom Queen” by The Lip Bar and I’m so glad I bought it. It’s a baby step outside of my usual red and burgundy comfort zone and I like it!

Do y’all think you’ll give the acid wash trend a try this fall or nah? If you are, what pieces are you eyeing? And, as always, leave me a comment with any feedback or questions you have. See y’all next week!
