Chambray for the Holiday
Chambray and White…so right!
I spent most of the 4th of July holiday at home. At the last minute, I decided to head to Davis for some poolside fun and fireworks. Since I was in a bit of a hurry to get ready, I threw on my chambray shirt and white ankle length jeans. This chambray shirt is my favorite by far. I wear it all the time. It’s lightweight (perfect for summer) and the wash isn’t too dark or too light. I wear it as a top or I use it as a layering shirt (tie it around my waist or wear it unbuttoned over a camisole) to use if it gets chilly. Chambray tops can be worn with pretty much any colored jean – even denim. It’s a neutral so don’t be afraid to rock it with some red skinnies or olive cargo pants.
I have a love/hate relationship with white jeans. I love the sharpness that a great pair of white jeans brings to an outfit but I’m also clumsy and manage to always get my white jeans dirty somehow. White jeans are also great in the Summer for when it’s too hot to wear darker denim but I wear mine year-round. You can wear white after Labor Day and you should! This pair in particular is a straight leg cropped jean made by Joe’s Jeans but I own a pair of white jeans in every style. I got them at Nordstrom Rack one day when I had given up hope of ever finding a pair of ankle length white jeans. If you aren’t shopping at Nordstrom Rack for your designer jeans, GO THERE NOW! I’ve found so many pairs of great designer jeans at Nordstrom Rack that it’s not even funny. And they’re all under $100 usually. Another great place to get jeans is Forever 21. Yes, you heard me correctly. Forever 21. They have great quality jeans for under $30. Topshop and DSTLD are great middle price point brands (more than $50 but less than $100) for all of your jeans needs as well.
Accessorizing the Chambray
I didn’t want to wear flip flops (I knew I’d probably be walking through wet grass at the park later on) so I opted for my Tory Burch sandals. Steve Madden, Forever 21, and BP (Nordstrom’s Juniors label) also have great sandals at more reasonable price points if you don’t want to spend a ton. I wear my sandals a lot during the summer because I’m not really a flip flop person so I feel like I’ve gotten my money’s worth out of my pair.
I grabbed my trusty Speedy 25 (my first designer purchase ever that’s 6 years old now), threw on a few boho-chic accessories, and off we went. I love to pair my Alex and Ani bracelets with my Dogeared (not to) Worry Beads. They’re so much fun to stack. Plus, a little arm candy never hurt anyone. It added some texture and gave the look a more laid back feel. The aviator sunglasses added that final chill element that my outfit needed. A few hours later, I headed over to Davis Community Park for the fireworks show. Dexter was a trooper and didn’t bark once!
Happy 4th of July lovelies!
xoxo, CCB
