Dear Cocoa Butter Crewe,
I realize now that my announcement on Instagram that I was taking a hiatus last month was abrupt. And for that, I want to apologize. However, it (my hiatus) was very necessary. Here’s why:
As you all know, I work full time and Cocoa Butter Diaries is my hobby. Even though I do work a lot, I manage to maintain my weekly editorial calendar because I work smart. I usually shoot outfits on my days off (and shoot more outfits than I’ll actually need to have “stock photos”), write and schedule blog posts in advance, and plan my Instagram posts so that as far as day to day operations I don’t really have to do much. 99 percent of the time, I love doing all of these things and it doesn’t feel like work. That one percent where I don’t want to do ANYTHING blog-related is what happened to me at the end of May. Everything felt forced and like a chore. I wasn’t inspired to create. At all. I didn’t want to post on Instagram, engage in the comments, engage with others…nothing. And that’s not cool because this is supposed to be fun for me. So I decided to take a break from all things Cocoa Butter Diaries.
Y’all were super supportive of my decision and I really appreciate that. I feel like I can be honest with you when I’m feeling great and when I’m feeling not so great. That’s a huge relief. I don’t have to pretend everything is fine when in reality I’m crumbling inside. And for that, I wanted to say thank you. Through all the ups and downs, y’all are there for me. And like I said on Sunday, you’re more than followers…you’re family. My Cocoa Butter Crewe, I love you💕 #feels
But I digress. During my time off, I reset my “system”. I started meditating every day with the help of Headspace and kept continuing my weekly therapy sessions on Talkspace. I cannot stress enough how important mental health is. Someone like me who is constantly working, on the go, and who often puts her own personal needs last really struggles with making myself a priority at times. So that’s what I’m doing now. Making sure my mind is right.
Resetting myself was step one. Step two was getting re-inspired to create again. I came up with some new ideas for the blog as well as some changes that I hope y’all will love. I’m so excited to share them with you over the next couple of months. I want to keep creating content that will not only inspire you but also show you more facets of my personality. Because I am funny. Sometimes.
