Summer Wardrobe Edit: Prairie Dresses
Summer Wardrobe Edit: Prairie Dresses
Happy Monday Cocoa Butter Crewe! As the weather starts to heat up (apparently we’re not getting a proper Spring here in the Bay Area this year), its time to start transitioning my wardrobe to summer. Bring on the dresses! I’ve always loved summer dresses but this year it’s on another level due largely in part to one particular silhouette: PRAIRIE DRESSES. This diary entry will be the first of FIVE posts in my “Summer Wardrobe Edit” blog series where I’ll be styling the seasons biggest trends. Let’s get into it!
Prairie dresses are one of the hottest dress silhouettes of the season. And whether you’re a fan of mini or maxi lengths there’s a dress for you! I personally have lost count of how many I own because they’re so easy to style and are incredibly versatile. In my first look, I simply added a belt to define my waist a bit more and to put my own flavor on it. And since it was 70 degrees last weekend, I kept the rest of my look easy and breezy with my Hermes Oran sandals and a Zara orange linen headband. I plan to wear this dress again with espadrilles or white low top sneakers.
This particular prairie dress was advertised as being oversized so I sized down in it. The fit is perfect! I have to be careful with oversized pieces since I’m petite so that I don’t drown in the fabric (another reason why high waisted belts are my besties). When I got this dress I knew IMMEDIATELY that I wanted to style it with my new gold Fendi western boots. This look came out even better than I imagined it in my head. And I love this dress so much that I bought it in black too. If you like it, buy it in every color right?
This prairie dress also incorporates the chambray trend. Chambray is basically denim so it goes with everything – just like your blue jeans do. Style accordingly. I chose to style this beauty with snakeskin boots and a statement necklace for a fun and flirty spring look. By the way, I made this CHANEL necklace using my brooch and filmed a tutorial on IGTV if you want to re-create my look.
Finally, I transitioned this prairie dress from day to night by layering it with jeans. I had on this outfit while I was out shopping a couple of weeks ago and simply added the jeans for date night. I get cranky when I’m cold so layering is key for me. Since I was wearing a lighter wash denim jacket, I opted for a darker wash jean for contrast. I personally love how this look turned out. Just the right amount of extra!
I hope you enjoyed my first diary entry in this series. See y’all next week!
