Rain Attire
Rain Attire
Happy Wednesday everyone! Phew! What a week it has been for me so far! I had initially planned to post on the blog yesterday but I was sooooo tired from working Saturday – Monday that I needed to rest. I was able to catch up on sleep, spend some quality time with Dexter, and shoot new outfits with Ben today so it wasn’t a total loss. And that farro rigatoni with duck ragu that I treated myself to after our shoot wrapped was ah-mazing. I worked hard in front of the camera so I think I earned my carbs.
It’s no secret that I like to repeat outfits. My other secret is that I like to use my off-duty time to experiment with different looks for the blog. For example, I wore this exact same outfit to work at J.Crew the day before (don’t worry, I washed it before wearing it again) and got so many compliments that I had to shoot it for the blog. The only problem was that it was raining on shoot day…grrrr! When I wore this outfit to work, I was wearing my white Nicholas Kirkwood loafers because it was 70 degrees and gorgeous. And I wasn’t about to ruin my loafers in the rain so I swapped them out for my rain boots.
I LOVE my Givenchy rain boots! I bought these beauties for Christmas right after I moved to NYC. Here in California, I never really needed rain boots so I didn’t own any. But when I moved to NYC, I needed a boot that could get me through the winter storms without slipping and falling on the wet and frozen ground. I also didn’t want a rain boot that was shiny. That was a tall order given that most rain boots are but I managed to find these at Barneys. I’m so glad that I splurged on them. They’re comfortable, stylish, and they don’t look like a rain boot. In fact, I wear them on dry days sometimes too! I get so many compliments on them and people are shocked when I tell them that they are a rain boot.
This wool jacket is making its blog debut. I bought it around Thanksgiving after seeing one of my favorite bloggers, Brooklyn Blonde, wearing it on her Instagram around that time. It was $200 but since it’s black and white I knew I’d get miles out of it so it was worth the price tag. I was out here in California for the holiday and didn’t have much room in my luggage for any extra items so I passed on buying it. But it was still on my mind when I got back to NYC. I took an extra day off after I flew back to NYC to get over the jet lag and I decided to do some shopping in SoHo. There was a Banana Republic on the way to the Chanel boutique and I decided to stop in. Since I had seen it in store a few days earlier, it had gone on sale and they were doing a 40 percent off promotion on all purchases. After all of the discounts, the jacket was only $58. If that isn’t fashion fate, I don’t know what is.
When I was putting together this outfit, I wanted to do it with a striped pussy bow blouse. Believe it or not, it was difficult to find one. So I gave up on that idea and went back to the drawing board. One day, I found this crew neck sweater in H&M while I was out and about and thought about my jacket again. This was exactly what I needed to complete my look. Like I said, I wore this exact outfit to work the day before but with different shoes and I popped the collar of my blouse. Everyone loved it – especially the shoes and the popped collar. I do work at J.Crew after all but who am I kidding? I love a popped collar regardless!
So even on the rainy days, there’s always a silver lining so keep on smiling!
