Sassy Stripes
Sassy Stripes
Happy Tuesday y’all! I hope you had a lovely holiday weekend! I spent my weekend spending QT with the BF. We’re both workaholics so both of us basically used Saturday as a kick back day. We cooked dinner and watched the Warriors/Thunder game. Being a Bay Area girl (born and raised), I’m a proud member of Dubnation #strengthinnumbers. And as much as I wanted to be lazy on Sunday too, he convinced me to go to the gym. I griped the whole way there but once I got in the free weights area and started lifting, I got into my groove right away. My workout playlist definitely helped too. I even took a selfie at the gym after I was done just in case anyone doubted me working out. Remember, if there’s no photos, it didn’t happen haha.
We came back into the city early on Monday, mostly to make sure we were home in time to watch the game. Since we had a few hours before Game 7 started, we decided to go for a walk along the river in Long Island City. I threw on this striped maxi and my flat sandals because it was extremely humid in NYC yesterday but I knew it would be breezy by the water. This dress is extremely lightweight and comfortable. And even being 5’2″ it’s not too long on me either! It’s fitted in the torso and thigh and is loose below the knee which was perfect for our long walk and impromptu picnic on the lawn. Also, it’s black and white and stripes…need I say more?
I’m quite fond of maxi dresses and have a lot of them in my closet. I’ve purchased some great ones from Forever 21, Bebe, and Nordstrom over the years. I prefer to buy maxi dresses that elongate my short torso so I have a lot of fitted (think bodycon) dresses or empire waist dresses. I also like to add high waisted belts to my A-line maxi dresses to create the illusion of a waist and to make the dresses more my own. You’ll be seeing me in a lot more maxi dresses throughout the summer and styled in many different ways. Stay tuned!
Accessorizing the Stripes
I accessorized my striped maxi with my black flat sandals. You saw a glimpse of them when I posted my shoefie on Instagram on Saturday while I was waiting for the train. These sandals are my go-to’s during the summer. I’m not a huge fan of flip-flops (except for when I’m getting pedicures) so a pair of simple flat sandals were a must have in my closet. What I also like about this pair is that they can be dressed up or down. I usually wear them during the week when I’m commuting to and from the office and just change into my heels when I get to my desk if I’m wearing a pair of heels that aren’t “all day wearable” yet or I have errands after work. Just because you commute via subway or train doesn’t mean your comfortable footwear can’t be stylish. And when the sun started to set before we got home, I threw on my cropped denim jacket as the temperature started to drop.
Have a great start to your work week! Now, where’s my Americano?
